Edition 2010: Vrederick
“My urge to discover new bands was manifested during the late nineties. Because of my work as a manager and event organizer, I am on the spot when it comes down to discovering new bands.
As a photographer, I was awarded a prize at the Foam Redbull5pics. After this event, Blend Magazine asked me to join their ranks. I was given full discretion and could photograph bands that I considered interesting in my own way and style. I still have this job, which accounts for six pages in every Blend issue.
A good band picture reveals what the live show and the music is like. The image sheds some light on the person(s) behind the music. I attempt to create a realistic image of musicians, without using artificial light. I don’t like it when musicians pose. By having a good conversation about music in a loose atmosphere, I am able to get them in a suitable mindset. I try not to shoot too many pictures; I almost never exceed 20 shots. In this way, I preserve the spontaneous yet well-considered Vrederick-pictures. ”
