Edition 2010: Joachim Zimmermann

Joachim Zimmerman was born in 1978 in the Black Forest and is now residing in Berlin .
A photographer since 1999, he started as a photo journalist of a local paper, followed by assistance in advertisement photo studios and a degree of photography studies at Ostkreuzschule , Berlin in 2008.

Since 2007 he has been working as a music photographer with photos being released by german pop cultural magazines like INTRO, Opak or Visions while also working directly for record labels.Beside music there’s also a strong interest in fashion photography.

“I love shootings. I like to challenge every location, every circumstance – be it troublesome weather or a short window of time – and the artist every time.
To convince the band of an idea on a short notice, to create moments with them in their everyday life, to isolate them and press the ‘reset’-button, this is the definition of my works.I stage almost all my photos and always use additional flash light to define the source of light, or to mix with available light.

Most photos were created on press days or shortly before shows. I like both variants of shootings. I work hand in hand with artists, managers and magazines.
I see myself only at the beginning of this genre, there are still a whole lot of musicians out there which I’d like to portray”
